Swift Swimming to compete at World Masters Championships

Swift Swimming Masters Attending Swimming World Championships

The 15th edition of the FINA World Masters Championships will take place in Montreal (CAN) from July 27 - August 10, 2014, and Swift will send a 7 member team to compete, It will be the 4th World Championship that Swift has attended, it’s first being in San Francisco in 2006. In 2010 Swift attended Worlds in Sweden, and 2012 in Italy with the largest attendance of 14,000 athletes.

Representing Swift at this year’s Worlds in Montreal will be Percy Knowles, Andy Knowles, Nancy Knowles, Bruce Knowles, Lisa Knowles, Elliott Knowles, and Allie MacPhail.

Percy will compete in the 50,100,and 200 Breast, 50 and 100 free. Andy will compete in the 100,200,400, and 800 free, and the 400 IM. Nancy will compete in the 50,100, and 200 Fly, the 50 free, and 400 free. Bruce will compete in the 50 and 100 breast, 50 back, 50 fly, and 200 IM. Lisa will compete in the 50 free, and 50 back. Elliott will compete in the 50, 100, and 200 free. The FINA World Masters Championships is the Federation’s biggest competition in terms of participation, for the reason that it welcomes, every two years, swimmers, divers and water polo players aged 25 to more than a 100 years old from all corners of the world. The vibrant Masters movement actively promotes fitness, friendship, understanding and competition through its five disciplines (swimming, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming and open water swimming). FINA officially created the Masters movement about 30 years ago, the first edition being held in 1986 in Tokyo (JPN). Starting in 2015, the FINA World Masters Championships will be held in conjunction with the FINA World Championships, taking place in Kazan (RUS).

Swift has also been competing at the US Masters Nationals every year since 2006 and in May this year at the Santa Clara, California, US Masters Nationals, Swift won 5 medals.

Swift has a big Masters program with most adults swimming for exercise and fun.

Swift presently has three swimmers competing at the Commonwealth Games, Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace, Dustin Tynes, and Joanna Evans.
